Catching up and getting a table
Apr. 9th, 2005 08:40 pmNow that my time is mine again, I am slowly churning away at catching up with everything that I had no time for earlier this year. Most of it seems to involve paperwork and organizational things, but there was one more pleasant bit that I had to keep my kittycat waiting for ...
You see, we have this round table in our living room that my parents have had in their living room when I was still a kid. I'm very happy that they gave it to us, but it has seen better days. Some of the wood is splintered, leading to occasional ouches when we clean it, and when you try to extend it by putting in the extra parts, it becomes very unstable because the mechanism is broken. It's generally become dark and unattractive, and had a lot of things done to it. In short: It was due for replacement.
So we drove to a furniture store east of Berlin, and even though it was a Saturday, it wasn't even crowded. I had dreaded looking for furniture with masses of people and noise, but there is something good to be said about stores outside the city boundaries. They had lots of room displaying all kinds of tables, and with all the carpeting on display it was reasonably quiet.
We are promised our new table and the chairs will be delivered in a few weeks. I'm still slightly amazed I let myself be convinced that orange seat covers will look nice on our light green carpets, but it's a creamy kind of orange and I can just imagine it will look neat.
